Things have changed a little at The Surveyor General since you rolled up for dinner in your FB Holden, in a cloud of dust, as depicted by this 1962 British Pathé Cinesound Review.
Condemned and threatened by a demolition order in 1942, Australia's oldest continuously licensed pub, The Surveyor General, no longer met liquor act standards. It had just been purchased by Graham Percival, who obtained a stay of demolition, made moves to have the building’s history recognised, and supported by public pressure had liquor licensing laws changed to allow for hotels to be listed as heritage buildings.
The historic bar and Bushrangers Bistro at Berrima' s Surveyor General are open 7 days a week and offer a good range of typical pub food choices, but with some interesting alternative options.
